Community & Partners

Mosscare works in a variety of communities and with a range of partners.

Over many years Mosscare has developed many links with community groups and regularly attends meetings, listening to what tenants and residents have to say as well as participating in local events.

Residents in Higher Openshaw took the lead in producing the Higher Openshaw Community Agreement. This agreement reflects the aspirations of the local community and also the individual responsibilities of people living in- that community. This agreement was originally for use by Mosscare tenants but due to its success it is now used by all residents and other people and organisations that are committed to the local area. Mosscare has looked at using similar agreements in other parts of its area of operation.

In June 2003 homes managed by the Carrbrook Housing Co-operative, located in Carrbrook, Stalybridge, were transferred from the City Council to Mosscare. Since the transfer, Mosscare has been actively engaged with the Co-op to deliver the improvements to the homes on the estate and also to review the Management Agreement that is in place between the Co-op and Mosscare to ensure that the co-op are able to manage homes on the estate. The revised agreement was signed on 31 January 2005.

Mosscare also has extensive experience of working in partnership with the police in a number of areas within Greater Manchester. In both Moss Side and Openshaw we were instrumental in setting up and hosting a joint forum between police and local social landlords. These partnerships are useful in developing a strategy to reduce crime and fear of crime in the area and we have had some notable successes.

Under the heading of supported housing, Mosscare provides accommodation for people with special needs who require a higher level of care and support and Mosscare enters into an Agreement with a specialist organisation to provide these services. A variety of tenure arrangements may be entered into with the residents ranging from sole tenancies with the Association to licenses with the agency organisation. The following is a summary of Mosscare’s supported housing schemes:
