Furnished Tenancies With Mosscare

November 2009

Mosscare can offer some items of furniture to people whose circumstances make it difficult to get those items to help set up home.

New tenants can be offered items of furniture to help to set up a new home. The items are provided by Mosscare, and a weekly charge is added to the rent to pay for it. If a person is entitled to Housing Benefit, then the furniture charge is eligible to be paid by Housing Benefit.

What Furniture Is Offered ?

Mosscare can provide:

  • Gas or Electric Cookers
  • Fridge Freezers.
  • Double or Single Beds
  • Cots

If you feel you need help to furnish your new home, you should mention this when you are interviewed for re-housing. We will respond to you by telephone or letter, if you have been accepted. Mosscare will order the furniture, and arrange delivery.

Our Responsibility:

The furniture always remains the property of Mosscare, and should not be removed from the property. If there are any problems with any of the items, it is Mosscares responsibility to repair or replace the items. Please contact us and we will arrange for someone to check the items.

Your Responsibility:

Tenants are responsible for keeping the furniture in good and clean condition, and not to deliberately damage the furniture. You may be recharged for any deliberate damage.

What Happens Later In My Tenancy?

After three years, you will have the opportunity to have items of furniture removed by Mosscare and for the charge to be adjusted. You will have an annual opportunity to do this in the following years.

The furniture will be part of your tenancy conditions for the first three years of the tenancy.

Who To Contact:

Please contact the Supported Housing Team at Mosscare, if you would like any further information about furnished tenancies.
